Workplace Change

Most workplace don’t know who to deal, cope or facilitate change. You might in this situation and using outdated models or book or videos don’t work. Why do I say this? Because most Owners, or Directors and Managers will look to the internet for information, or repeat unhealthy behavior patterns that are not rewarding.

This gives you an intellectual framework and some information with catchphrases to banter around to sound good. Here are 3 realities from being a Change Management Consultant/Facilitator. (Plus a business owner of several businesses including Strategic Business Coaching)

Reality 1. Differing Opinions
Everyone is going to have different points of view of how to deal with changes. Some will be valid and most will be listened to out of respect. Yet the reality is few have the know-how, experience and expertise to facilitate it well.

Tip: Different opinions can be swaying and you require to stay on course with your strategic plan objectives. Embrace different views and be sure you have 3 – 5 clear core views about the changes. E.g. These changes are not easy yet will be done respectfully and require your input and patience. We will communicate regularly and keep you up-to-date. Change is easier than you think and we all do it differently everyday.

Reality 2. People Reactions
It’s a given that people will react and respond differently. Some will be calm and in control, and others dissatisfied and upset…however it’s done there will reactions. The key is people will remember the way they felt when changes are made.

Tip: Prepare your state before you communicate. Be calm and clear and let others know that it is just as difficult to do for as it is for them to receive the news. Be sure you give plenty of time if it is appropriate. Be respectful and state it in 3 points as follows:
a) State the situation
b) State the what needs to be done
c) State what when it will start

Reality 3. Strategic Objectives
Always have a strategic plan with SMART objectives.
Specify (Who, what, when, why, where and how)
Measurable (How will you measure it? Numbers, quality, milestones etc) 
Ambitious & Adaptable (Have a strong desire to achieve it & be flexible)
Results-Orientated (Attention on achieving the desired goal)
Tantalizing (Is it interesting, exciting and engaging?)
